Conoco® and Phillips 66® have officially merged
As a company that deals in providing world-class oils and lubricants from brands that have become household names (to those of us in the industry, anyway), it’s safe to say that we get many questions. These enquiries encompass those from engineers who’ve been in the industry for years, to questions from everyday people who are looking for the best oil on the market.
However, of all the questions we get asked daily, one sticks out to us as something that gets asked in-credibly often is “can I still get Conoco® oil?” and we feel that it’s high time that we set the record straight.
So, Can You Still Get it?
The short answer to this is yes, you can. But we feel that a more extended explanation is needed, just so that we’re all on the same page. Phillips 66® Lubricants, the holding company for Conoco®, an-nounced in 2016 that they would be consolidating all of their lubricants portfolio into two key brands, namely, Phillips 66® and Kendall® Motor Oil, as of July 1, 2016.
Now, before the warning bells start going off in your head, we’d like to clarify and say that while things certainly have changed at Phillips 66® over the past few years; their oil hasn’t. It remains the same reliable product that you’ve been using in your vehicles for years, and they haven’t skimped on the quality of the product at all.
Brands have been consolidating, disbanding, and just overall changing for years, and this is no differ-ent, so you have nothing to be concerned about. It’s the same product; it just has a different name.
A Brief History Lesson
Before this merger occurred, Conoco® had cemented their place as one of the best oil and lubricant companies. They saw a history of success that dates back to 1909 when the company was still known as Continental Oil. It was in this year they the company built the West’s first ever filling station.
Fast forward to 1929, which was the year that Continental Oil and Transportation Co. merged with Marland Oil (we told you it happens all the time) to form a new company – the Continental Oil Com-pany (Conoco®). At this time, the company owned close to 3,000 wells and thousands of outlets in 30 of the US’s 50 states.
Throughout history, the company has made a name for themselves as innovators within their field. Whether it be developing the aviation fuel that powered the first flight between the US and Hawaii, or, being the first to develop and market propane for home heating and cooking, their dedication to excellence and innovation is apparent.
In recent years, Phillips 66® played a vital role in the US lifting the 40-year long Crude Oil Export Ban and went on to achieve the US’ first export cargo of U.S-produced light crude oil since the government lifted the ban on December 18, 2015.
Based on the above, it’s abundantly clear that regardless of what they’ve called themselves over the many years that they’ve been in the industry, Phillips 66® has seen it all.
